Gemstone Quiz

Ruby

Like a ruby that stays red under any light, you shine clearly even on your own.

SparklingOne steady colorA single stone

Ruby is the name given only to the red variety of a mineral called corundum. Corundum in any other color is called sapphire. The red comes from a tiny trace of chromium, and many rubies glow red under ultraviolet light.

With a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, ruby is second only to diamond. A gem is cut from a single crystal, and its faces bounce light back to show off a crisp red. In the same way, you show what you like and what you think in the same clear color, whoever you're with. Deciding on your own and getting started on your own doesn't bother you at all.

Red catches the eye even from far away. That also means that when the same strong red keeps coming at someone, they may not get a moment to catch their breath. Once you've made your point, leave a pause to hear the other person's color — your red will stand out all the more.

Strengths

  • You can share the things you love with real warmth
  • You don't change your message to suit your audience, so your story stays consistent
  • Even on your own, you can get straight to work on what you've decided

Where you may stumble

  • As you keep talking eagerly about the same thing, the other person loses any chance to get a word in
  • When everyone needs to wait until they're all ready, you're itching to go first
  • Even when your thinking changes partway through, what you said before makes it hard to say so

Sounds familiar, Ruby?

Where you shine

When someone needs to raise their hand first, or in a discussion where it matters that opinions don't waver. Your unchanging red easily becomes a landmark for everyone.

Easy together

Amethyst — Amethyst's purple and ruby's red both come from the tiniest trace of something mixed in. Ruby holds its red alone, Amethyst holds its purple alongside others, but neither bends its color — so the two of you get on the same page fast.

Easy together

Jade — Red and green bring each other out when placed side by side. Even when Ruby steps boldly forward, Jade quietly keeps its own green, so neither color gets muddied.

May clash

Moonstone — Ruby stays red under any light, while the glow in Moonstone moves every time you tilt it. Both are true to the way they shine, so when you have to decide something together, it's easy to disagree over whether to go “as planned” or “as things turn out.”
