Amber

Hardened over a very long time, you always glow the same warm color.

A soft glowOne steady colorA single stone

Amber is fossilized resin from ancient trees that hardened underground over a very long time. Some is tens of millions of years old, and insects or leaves are sometimes found still trapped inside. In Japan, Kuji in Iwate Prefecture, in the northeast, is known as a source.

Rather than bouncing light back in sparkles, amber lets a rich, warm color seep out from within. Held in your hand, it feels surprisingly light for a stone, and faintly warm. That's your way as well: rather than raising your voice to stand out, you quietly keep your usual warmth, in time spent on your own.

Just as the resin sealed in insects and leaves, you hold on to events and things people have said for a long time. You remember things from long ago, sometimes to the other person's surprise. Bringing out what you've kept, now and then, lets the people around you feel that warmth too.

Strengths

  • You can keep up relationships for a long time with the same steady warmth
  • You don't mind keeping at work you do step by step on your own
  • You can remember important things people have told you for a long time

Where you may stumble

  • Because you remember past events so well, there's a gap in feeling between you and someone who has already forgotten them
  • When someone suggests changing the usual way of doing things, you can't switch gears right away
  • When you've taken on a task by yourself, it's hard to find the moment to ask someone for help

Sounds familiar, Amber?

Where you shine

Long-lasting friendships, or work you move forward step by step on your own. Your unchanging warmth helps the people around you settle down.

Easy together

Pearl — Amber comes from trees and Pearl comes from shellfish. Both are gems made by living things, and both take shape slowly, quietly, on their own. As people who wait without rushing each other, you find each other easy company.

Easy together

Amethyst — Amethyst shows its color clearly together with its companions. It shares Amber's care for a color that doesn't change, so when Amethyst invites Amber into the circle, Amber can join in without strain.

May clash

Opal — Amber is a stone that has kept what the resin sealed in exactly as it was for ages. Opal shows a different face every time you meet. Your sense of how much “not changing” matters is the exact opposite, so even looking back on the same event, you tend to disagree about which parts are worth remembering.

Close neighbors
