Diamond

You take in the light around you and send it back as rainbow sparkle.

SparklingShifts as you lookA single stone

Diamond is a mineral made of nothing but carbon. It's thought to crystallize more than 150 km (about 90 miles) underground, under intense heat and pressure, and to be carried up near the surface by volcanic eruptions. It's known as the hardest of all natural minerals.

A diamond itself is colorless, but it bends incoming light sharply and splits it into rainbow colors. The flashes of color keep changing with the angle you look from and how the light falls. You do the same with the mood of the people and the room around you, taking it in and sending it back in whatever way suits the moment. Even walking into a new place alone, you quickly catch its light.

Even diamond, the hardest of all, has planes where it splits easily if force comes from a particular direction. You're strong at adjusting to others, but a moment when the different faces you show in different places all line up at once can be where that weak plane shows.

Strengths

  • You can quickly get a feel for a place, even your first time there
  • You can change how bright or fast your talk is to suit the other person
  • You can walk alone into a room full of people you don't know

Where you may stumble

  • When people you know from separate parts of your life all show up at once, you can't decide which way of talking to go with
  • Things you took on in the excitement of the moment end up piling on top of each other later
  • Moving light and fast on your own, you forget to tell the person you're meeting that your plans have changed

Sounds familiar, Diamond?

Where you shine

Gatherings where the faces change every time, or moments when a gloomy mood needs lifting. You turn the light around you into sparkle, so the whole room tends to brighten.

Easy together

Opal — Both turn light into rainbow colors, but Diamond does it by bending and splitting the light, while Opal does it with tiny particles lined up inside. Same rainbow, different method — so side by side, you don't compete for the spotlight.

Easy together

Amber — Diamond conducts heat well, so it feels cool in your hand. Amber conducts heat poorly and feels faintly warm to the touch. For a Diamond always moving from place to place, Amber, always the same warmth, is someone to catch your breath with.

May clash

Jade — Diamond moves alone from place to place, changing how it shines, while Jade keeps the same green among its companions. Your speed and the distance you keep from people are opposites, so when you work on something together, each of you can feel the other is far away.
