RPG Class Quiz

Mage

You quietly work out your spell alone at the back, then unleash great power at the moment that counts.

Support from behindThink it throughOn your own

The mage is the RPG class that casts spells to summon fire and lightning. Often not physically tough, mages fight from the back of the party with knowledge and concentration. Sometimes the stronger the spell, the longer it's portrayed as taking to cast.

Before starting something, you tend to work out how it works and the steps involved in your head, on your own. Rather than moving forward while talking with others, you pull your thoughts together somewhere quiet, and once they're in order, you act all at once.

A spell can't be released until it's finished. You, too, don't start moving until your thoughts are in order, so to others you can look like you've stopped. If you share even just the headline of what you're thinking, your companions can get their own preparations done while they wait.

Strengths

  • On your own, you can think deeply about how things work
  • Once you're prepared, you can make a big move all at once
  • You can hold on to your own view without being swept along by the crowd

Where you may stumble

  • You don't move until your thoughts are in order, so you're late getting started
  • When a group decides things by talking it out, there isn't enough time to think
  • Steps you worked out in your head sometimes don't fit when you actually try them

Sounds familiar, Mage?

Where you shine

Untangling something complicated, calmly and on your own. Because you've taken time to pull your thoughts together, you can often move things forward in one big step.

Matches

Easy together

Hero — The Hero brings the party together and takes the lead. When the Mage works out a strategy alone, the Hero picks it up and builds it into the group's moves, so it takes shape without the Mage having to go around rallying people.

Easy together

Thief — The Thief scouts ahead alone and brings back word of what's behind closed doors. You both use your heads and move alone, so no extra explaining is needed, and the Mage gets more to think with.

May clash

Knight — The Knight wants to get moving and protect their companions. For a Mage who wants quiet time to work out a spell, being asked “Are you okay?” over and over is unsettling, while to the Knight, a Mage lost in thought without a word looks worrying.
