RPG Class Quiz

Ranger

With a bow on your back, you roam the hills and follow the tracks you've checked with your own feet.

The ranger is a class that strikes from a distance with a bow or similar weapon. In RPGs, rangers are often portrayed standing at the back of the party, firing arrows over the heads of the companions fighting up front. Strong legs for walking the wilds and a sharp eye for animal tracks are also part of their character.

Rather than standing at the center, you tend to take on your own share of the work from a little distance. Instead of discussing every detail with others, you'd rather roam around alone, see things with your own eyes, and bring back what you find for the group to use.

A ranger may spend a whole day walking the hills, following an animal's trail. You, too, get your feet moving before you've thought it through and act on what you've seen with your own eyes, so when a discussion over a spread-out map goes on and on, you can get tired of waiting.

Strengths

  • Behind the people who step up front, you can quietly go wherever more hands are needed
  • You can walk a long way on your own and check things with your own eyes
  • In rain or heat, you can keep working steadily on your own

Where you may stumble

  • When a big group moves forward by calling out to each other, it's hard to find your own distance
  • While you're off seeing for yourself, the discussion wraps up without you
  • When the details of a plan are settled in advance, it's hard to get moving

Sounds familiar, Ranger?

Where you shine

When there's something you can't know without going, and someone needs to go and check. Because you go and see before you've thought it through, the discussion is less likely to stay stuck on paper.

Easy together

Warrior — While the Warrior holds the enemy's attention up front, the Ranger is free to roam far away. You work apart, front and back, so there's no need to stay in close step — an easy partner for a Ranger who likes to move alone.

Easy together

Thief — The Thief goes ahead and finds the traps and back ways. When the Ranger follows tracks with their own eyes, the news the Thief brings back lets them head deep into the forest without getting lost.

May clash

Hero — The Hero wants to pull everyone's moves together into a single plan. To a Ranger who wants to see things first and then act, a plan settled before anyone has looked feels confining, and the Hero finds it hard to keep track of a Ranger moving outside the plan.
