Four Elements Quiz

Water

You change shape to fit the vessel and keep flowing quietly toward lower ground.

Staying coolChanging shape to flow

Water is the element Aristotle described as cold and wet. Of the four, it was placed above earth and below air. It has no fixed shape — pour it into a container and it takes that shape, and on a slope it flows downhill.

You tend to keep a calm temperature while changing shape to suit the person or the place. Rather than clashing hard, you flow along the shape of what's around you, and before anyone notices, you've settled in right beside them. You don't rush, but you don't stop either.

Water can't flow uphill on its own. Because you're good at moving along with your surroundings, when you have to head alone somewhere nobody has cleared a path, the first step can take you a while.

Strengths

  • You naturally match the other person's pace and way of talking
  • Even when things suddenly change, you can adapt without panicking
  • You can ease a tense room with your calm tone

Where you may stumble

  • It takes you a while to start something on your own that nobody has paved the way for
  • While going with the flow, you find you've come farther than you meant to
  • When things are rushed, your calm tone can be taken as “not keen”

Sounds familiar, Water?

Where you shine

When plans fall apart and everyone is scrambling. Because you change shape and flow while staying calm, things keep moving and stay connected.

Easy together

Air — Air also changes shape to flow with things. When Water becomes cloud, Air carries it along, and in time it falls back to the ground as rain. Neither of you minds change, so even if the destination shifts, you can enjoy it together.

Easy together

Earth — Earth builds banks along the path where Water flows. Even Water, with no shape of its own, becomes a river with banks of earth and can flow a long way without losing its course.

May clash

Fire — Fire wants to go straight ahead, burning hot, as soon as an idea strikes. When Water, who wants to flow with its surroundings, says, “Let's see how everyone feels first,” it looks to Fire like stalling — and to Water, Fire's speed seems to decide the current before anyone else can.
