Four Elements Quiz

Air

You change direction lightly and blow right through, freshening the air wherever you go.

Running hotChanging shape to flow

Air is the element the ancient Greeks set beside fire, water and earth. Aristotle described it as hot and wet, and placed it just below fire and above water. Moving as wind, it's invisible, yet it rustles the leaves, carries the clouds and finds its way in anywhere.

Wet things were thought of as those that change shape to fit a container and flow into any gap. You tend to change direction freely to suit the place and the people, and move around with plenty of heat as you do. When a new topic comes up, you drift straight over to it.

Wind changes direction easily, and leaves no trace of where it was blowing from a moment ago. You, too, may change direction so often that what you said earlier and what you're saying now drift apart, and others struggle to keep up. Add a reason when you change course, and people can follow along.

Strengths

  • You can keep up lightly with sudden changes of plan
  • You blend in easily with new people and new places
  • You can bring a fresh topic or a change of air into a gloomy room

Where you may stumble

  • You change direction so fast that earlier promises get left behind
  • As a conversation spreads out, you lose track of what it was about in the first place
  • When it's time to settle on one thing, other options keep popping up even after you've decided

Sounds familiar, Air?

Where you shine

When the usual way of doing things has hit a wall and some fresh air is needed. Shifting direction to suit the moment without losing your heat, you may be the breeze that gets stalled things moving again.

Easy together

Fire — Fire runs hot too. When Air blows, Fire grows bigger; when Fire burns, warm air rises. You both move with energy, so there's no struggle to match each other's speed.

Easy together

Water — Water also changes shape to flow with things. When Air brushes across Water, waves rise, and Water gives moisture back to the air. You can both change direction easily, so even when plans change, you can laugh and go along with each other.

May clash

Earth — Earth stays calm and wants to keep its own shape. You're opposites in both heat and shape, so when Air keeps bringing in new directions, Earth feels the ground shifting underfoot, and Air feels stopped in its tracks.
