Four Elements Quiz
Fire
With heat burning at your core, you blaze upward while keeping your own shape.
Fire was one of the four “roots” that the ancient Greek philosopher Empedocles believed everything was made of. Later, Aristotle explained the four elements as combinations of hot, cold, dry and wet, and described fire as hot and dry.
Aristotle described dry things as those that don't easily change shape to fit a container — they keep their own outline. You tend to show your feelings and act with energy, and yet you don't bend the core of how you do things or what you think just to fit in with others.
Fire was thought of as the element that rises highest of the four. Once you're fired up, you aim higher faster than anyone. But just as a flame shrinks suddenly when it runs out of fuel, if you keep running on momentum alone, you can run out of breath partway.
Strengths
- Once you decide to do something, you throw yourself into it right away
- You can stick to your own way of doing things without being swept along
- You can put your feelings into words and expressions and get them across directly
Where you may stumble
- Once you're fired up, you leave other people's pace behind
- When plans suddenly change, it takes you a moment to regroup
- Something you started on a burst of energy runs out of fuel later on
Sounds familiar, Fire?
- When something good happens, your voice goes up a notch
- Once you've said “I'll take this one,” you don't switch, even when the salesperson suggests another
- What was meant to be a just-for-fun game somehow becomes deadly serious
Where you shine
When something has nearly ground to a halt and needs relighting. As you push ahead with your heat intact, the people around you often catch the warmth and start moving too.
Tips for “Fire”
- The more fired up you get, the more important it is to set an end time first
- When plans change, start by finding just one thing you can still move forward
- Once a week, let the fire die down and make time to do nothing
Matches

Air — Air runs hot too. When air blows in, a fire burns stronger. You can move at the same heat, and Air changes direction for Fire, who cares about keeping its shape, so you move forward without colliding.
Earth — Earth also keeps its own shape. Even a fire burning too hot can turn into a hearth that burns for a long time when it's ringed with earth. Neither of you bends at the core, so you can both keep the promises you make to each other.
Water — Water stays calm and changes shape to fit its surroundings. You're opposites in both hot and cold and wet and dry, so when Water puts the brakes on Fire's momentum, Fire feels doused, and Water feels as if it's suddenly been brought to the boil.
