Bobsleigh

In step with a small team, you rocket down a set course in one go.

Bobsleigh is a sport in which a sled hurtles down a winding course made of ice. Most sleds carry two or four people, and at top speed they go well over 100 km/h (about 60 mph). It's also known as an event at the Winter Olympics.

At the start, everyone on the team pushes the sled at a run to build speed, then jumps in one after another. The person at the front steers, and the person at the back works the brake after the finish. Like a bobsleigh team, you split up roles within a small group you know well and power down the course you've set.

A bobsleigh is fast because it's on the course. You're good at moving along a set route in step with your teammates, so when the lineup or the route suddenly changes, it takes you a while to build up speed again. Talking through anything that might change before you start helps you feel at ease.

Strengths

  • You can split up roles in a small team and finish something in one push
  • You can focus your energy on a set goal in a short time
  • With teammates you're in sync with, you can move as one with few words

Where you may stumble

  • When the lineup suddenly changes, it's hard to get your usual momentum
  • You can't jump right on board with ideas that stray from the route you've set
  • You put so much into the initial push that you're wiped out afterward

Sounds familiar, Bobsleigh?

Where you shine

Work a small group finishes in a short time, or a challenge where everyone's role is clear. You move in step and all at once, so your momentum turns straight into results.

Easy together

Shinkansen (Bullet Train) — The Shinkansen and the Bobsleigh both have streamlined shapes that slice through the air, and both move fast along a set route. One carries crowds, the other a small team, but whatever the scale, talk about planning clicks right away.

Easy together

Ferris Wheel — The Ferris Wheel also goes around a set circle, with a few people in each car. After a Bobsleigh's rush to the bottom, the Ferris Wheel's slow trip around the same path offers time to ease off and take in the view.

May clash

Sailing Ship — The Bobsleigh decides its momentum in the first few seconds of the start, while the Sailing Ship waits for the wind before it moves. Your signals for getting going are completely different, so when you move together, each of you tends to be thrown by the other's way of doing things.
