Dessert Quiz
Tiramisu
Like a tiramisu packed with layers of coffee and cream, you fill the day to the brim and savor it all.
Tiramisu is an Italian dessert. It's made by alternating layers of coffee-soaked biscuits and a cream made with mascarpone cheese, then dusting the top with cocoa. It isn't baked; it's set by chilling in the fridge.
Its name is said to mean “pick me up” in Italian — in other words, “cheer me up.” There are various theories about where and when it was first made, and in Japan it became a huge craze around 1990. Because it uses fresh cream, it doesn't keep long and is best eaten soon.
The biscuits soak up plenty of coffee and sit snugly against the rich cream, with no gaps. Like a tiramisu, you layer lots of things into a single day and savor every one. After a day that full, though, you may not have energy left for the next. After a rich day, try slipping in a light one.

Purin (Japanese Custard Pudding) — Purin is also a smooth batter with no gaps, eaten the same day. They share a love of rich days lived in the present, and Purin, made from a single batter, neatly pulls together Tiramisu's days, which tend to pile up layers.
Strawberry Shortcake — Strawberry Shortcake is also built in layers and eaten the same day. With light, fluffy Shortcake around, even Tiramisu's tightly packed plans get some room to breathe.
Chiffon Cake — Chiffon Cake fills a single batter with lots of air and is enjoyed over several days. Tiramisu wants to pack the day full, while Chiffon Cake wants to leave room and enjoy things for longer, so even deciding how to spend a day off together, it's hard for them to agree.
