Dog Breed Quiz
Beagle
You run along with everyone, but when an interesting scent turns up, you follow your nose.
The Beagle is a hunting dog that was used in Britain for hunting rabbits. It's the kind of dog that tracks game by nose rather than by sight, running along scent trails left on the ground. Beagles hunted in packs, and when they found a scent, they're said to have raised a far-carrying bay to alert the rest of the pack and the people with them.
Because they've lived and worked in packs, Beagles are said to warm up easily to other dogs and to people. Once they start following a scent, though, they may not lift their nose from the ground even when called. You head out cheerfully with everyone, but you let your own nose decide the way.
That focus when something catches your interest is very Beagle. Still, the person you were walking with may turn out to be waiting far behind. Before wandering off, leave a word — “Just going to take a look” — and the people with you can wait without worrying.
Strengths
- You can fall into step right away with someone you've just met
- You can sniff out anything interesting before anyone else
- You can tell everyone out loud about what you've found
Where you may stumble
- Following something interesting, you get separated from the people you came with
- Your feet head down an intriguing side path rather than the set route
- Even when someone says “Later,” you keep talking about what you found
Sounds familiar, Beagle?
- When something smells good, you're looking for where it's coming from before you've even read the shop's name
- When you're out, “I'm just going to take a look” is practically your catchphrase
- You can't help reading every flyer and sign along the street as you walk
Where you shine
Big group outings, or walking somewhere you have no idea what you'll find. Being the first to spot something fun and call it out tends to get everyone moving.
Tips for “Beagle”
- Before a detour, leave a word with the people you're with: “Just going to take a look”
- Save the story of what you found until the other person reaches a pause
- On days out, set aside time for detours in advance

Pug — The Pug is another people-loving breed that values its own pace. The Beagle runs after scents and the Pug takes it easy — different speeds, but the same joy of spending time with anyone. When the Beagle comes back, the Pug will happily kick back and listen to the stories.
Shiba Inu — The Shiba Inu is also a hunting dog, bred to run through the mountains after game. The Beagle runs with a pack and the Shiba with a few close companions, but you both understand wanting to run on your own judgment. You can leave each other's detours alone.
Akita — Even when the Beagle calls out “Let's go together” to everyone, the Akita, who wants to spend time only with its chosen people, won't join in right away. The Beagle's easygoing friendliness and the Akita's caution tend to pass each other by.
