Flower Quiz

Lavender

You string many small flowers along a slender spike and share your scent only with those who come close.

Lots of small flowersDraw people near with scentBuild on each year

Lavender blooms from early to midsummer. It comes originally from the dry lands around the Mediterranean, and in Japan, the flower fields of places like Furano in Hokkaido, the northernmost main island, are well known. It strings many small purple flowers along a spike at the top of a slender stem.

Lavender's flowers and leaves are fragrant, giving off a soft scent when you brush past or touch them. Even picked and dried, it keeps its scent for a long time. You start on many things a little at a time, and your qualities slowly sink in for those who come near.

Lavender looks like a soft-stemmed plant, but it's actually a small shrub. It sends out branches from the same plant each year, and over time its base becomes hard and woody. You build on from where last year left off. But because you're so understated, people far away can find it hard to see what you're doing.

Strengths

  • You can keep several things going at once, a little at a time
  • You can show care to the people near you without making a fuss
  • Year after year, you can steadily build on what you did the year before

Where you may stumble

  • Because you're understated, people far off tend not to notice you
  • You take on small tasks bit by bit, and they all come due at once
  • Talk of rebuilding what you've built from scratch leaves you unsure

Sounds familiar, Lavender?

Where you shine

Small acts of thoughtfulness in a group that's been meeting for years, carrying last year's plans forward, and being someone the people around you can turn to for advice.

Easy together

Hydrangea — The Hydrangea is another flowering shrub that gathers small flowers. You both bloom in early summer, so your best seasons are close too. Where Lavender quietly gets things across, the Hydrangea pulls them together into a shape everyone can see.

Easy together

Lily of the Valley — The Lily of the Valley also lines up many small flowers and gives off its scent to those who come close. The Lily of the Valley, which starts fresh every year, shows Lavender, who treasures building up, how freeing a fresh start can be.

May clash

Sunflower — The Sunflower opens one big summer flower in a color you can see from far away. It's the opposite of Lavender — small, quiet, building up year after year — in every way. The Sunflower's directness can feel strong to Lavender, and Lavender's restraint can be hard for the Sunflower to see.
