Festival Stall Quiz
Shateki (Cork-Gun Shooting)
You take careful aim, and share your round of shots with whoever's with you.
Shateki is a game where you use a toy gun loaded with cork pellets to knock over or knock down prizes lined up on shelves. A round is just a few shots, and you reload after each one, thinking about where to hit so the prize will topple, and taking careful aim.
At some stalls, you can take turns with friends using a single round of shots. You, too, take on a challenge carefully with your own hands while sharing the chance with the people around you. You pass the gun — “Want to try the next one?” — and when it hits, you celebrate together.
Because you aim so carefully, missing can sting all the more. But shateki is a game where even the misses are something to laugh about with whoever's with you. If you can enjoy the whole time spent taking aim, not just whether you hit, your next shot comes more lightly.
Strengths
- Once you've set a goal, you can carefully get everything ready before you start
- You can share your chances to take a shot with the people around you
- Taking turns, you can enjoy one challenge together with everyone
Where you may stumble
- While you're still taking aim, everyone else starts moving first
- Sharing turns, you lose track of how many goes you've had
- Once you've decided to do something yourself, it's hard to hand it over partway through
Sounds familiar, Shateki (Cork-Gun Shooting)?

Matches

Takoyaki (Octopus Balls) — The Takoyaki also puts care into things and shares with others. While the Shateki is taking aim, the Takoyaki watches alongside, and enjoys working out how to share the prize you win together, too.
Wanage (Ring Toss) — The Wanage also takes on challenges with its own hands and shares the chance with others. When the Shateki is being too careful with its stance, the Wanage tosses one out first and loosens things up, so the Shateki can relax too.
Kakigori (Shaved Ice) — The Kakigori wants to enjoy its own serving quickly and leave the fiddly work to someone else. The Shateki wants to share its careful turn at aiming with others, and the Kakigori wants to finish its own share fast, so you don't see eye to eye on how long to spend in one place or how to split things up.
