Ramune (Marble Soda)

Like a bottle you open by pushing a marble down, you set up small surprises for each person.

Ramune is a Japanese soda that comes in a uniquely shaped bottle sealed at the mouth with a glass marble. The pressure of the fizz inside pushes the marble up from below, so it acts as the stopper. To drink it, you use a little plunger to push the marble down into the bottle. You, too, like adding little tricks or bits of play to ordinary things.

The name ramune is said to come from a Japanese pronunciation of “lemonade.” At summer festival stalls, bottles are lined up chilling in ice water and handed out one at a time. In the same spirit, you'd rather hand each person a bit of fun that suits them than give everyone the same thing.

The bottle has dents in its neck, and once you learn how to tilt it, the marble catches there and it's easier to drink. Getting the knack quickly, and then moving smoothly on to the next game once you've had your fun, is very much like you. To people who want to savor one pleasure for a long time, your pace can look different.
