Conversation Catch Quiz compatibility chart

For each of the 4 catch styles, two that are easy to be with and one that may clash. A clash does not mean either side is wrong — they simply value different things.

Fastball

  • Easy together Glove The Glove catches a straight ball firmly and sends back something short and straight. Neither of you has to read between the lines, so the conversation flows easily.
  • Easy together Soft Lob The Soft Lob takes the force of a Fastball gently and sends back an easy, looping ball. Even when you've talked too much, it turns it into a laugh and smooths out the flow.
  • May clash Curveball The Curveball also wants to be the one talking. While the Fastball hurries to the point, the Curveball takes detours with comparisons and jokes, so each of you tends to feel “We're not getting anywhere” or “There's no play in this.”

Curveball

  • Easy together Glove The Glove reaches out and catches even the bendiest ball. It enjoys the detour, then hands back the point in straight words, so the conversation never gets lost.
  • Easy together Soft Lob The Soft Lob loves comparisons and jokes too. It enjoys catching your bending throws and sends back a playful, looping ball, so the conversation goes on and on.
  • May clash Fastball The Fastball also wants to be the one talking. When the Curveball takes the conversation on a detour, the Fastball pushes ahead: “So what's the bottom line?” You both want to throw, so you tend to fight over the ball.

Glove

  • Easy together Fastball The Fastball throws you straight balls. All the Glove has to do is catch and return them straight, so you can talk without searching for hidden meanings.
  • Easy together Curveball The Curveball keeps the conversation fun with bending throws. When the Glove catches them and hands back the point, even the Curveball's wandering stories land safely.
  • May clash Soft Lob The Soft Lob also prefers the catching side. You're both waiting for the other to throw — and when the ball does come back as a joke or a hint, the Glove, braced for a straight answer, tends to miss it.

Soft Lob

  • Easy together Fastball The Fastball throws you plenty of straight balls. All the Soft Lob has to do is catch them and loop them back, so the conversation never stalls. Your gentle returns also take the edge off the Fastball's force.
  • Easy together Curveball The Curveball loves comparisons and jokes too. You enjoy catching its bending throws and answer with a joke of your own. The conversation keeps growing, and the laughter never stops.
  • May clash Glove The Glove also prefers the catching side. You're both waiting for the other's ball, and when you send back an indirect one, the Glove, which was waiting for a straight answer, may find it hard to get a grip on.

It is more fun once you know which one you are. 12 questions, about 2 minutes.
