Houseplant Quiz
Snake Plant
With sword-like leaves standing straight, you grow slowly, even with little water and in the shade.
The snake plant, or sansevieria, grows in dry lands in Africa and elsewhere, with stiff leaves that stand straight up like swords. In Japan it's called toranoo, “tiger's tail,” after the patterns on its leaves. It's extremely tolerant of drought, and in the cold months it's sometimes left almost entirely without water.
Like a snake plant that stores water in its stiff leaves and doesn't droop even after a long time without water, you keep to your own pace even when there are long gaps between you and others. You take your time with new things and do your best work in quiet, calm places.
Snake plants grow even in bright shade, they grow slowly, and too much water can damage their roots. For you, too, a moderate distance is just right. But if you never say anything, the people around you can't tell what you need.

Pothos — Pothos is happy in the shade and fine on its own. Even when fast-growing Pothos brings new ideas, it doesn't rush Snake Plant for an answer, so Snake Plant can think things over at its own pace and then try them out.
Air Plant — Air Plant grows slowly and is happy in the shade. Air Plant, who likes to check in, talks to Snake Plant just the right amount, so Snake Plant finds it easier to say things it would have kept to itself.
Weeping Fig — Weeping Fig shoots up fast, values regular contact and loves the sun. Weeping Fig keeps inviting others to lively places, while Snake Plant wants to take it slow somewhere quiet, so they feel at home in different places. When Snake Plant holds off on replying, Weeping Fig takes it as a lukewarm answer, and Snake Plant feels the next invitation has already arrived.
