Time of Day Quiz compatibility chart

For each of the 4 times of day, two that are easy to be with and one that may clash. A clash does not mean either side is wrong — they simply value different things.

Midday

  • Easy together Dawn Dawn also wants to make things clear. When Midday is about to decide something on the strength of a lively conversation, Dawn quietly lights up the ground underfoot: “Have we checked this part?” The answer stays solid as you move ahead.
  • Easy together Dusk Dusk also lives in the bustle. When Midday tries to light up everything and the room starts to stiffen, Dusk's “Well, that's fine too” loosens the air. Like noon giving way to evening, the gathering comes softly to a close.
  • May clash Midnight Midnight wants to enjoy unknown things as imagination, in the quiet of being alone. Midday wants to make everything clear among people and move ahead. The more Midday shines its light — “So, what are we doing?” — the more Midnight feels the open space it treasured is being dragged into the light, and Midday finds Midnight's answers hard to pin down.

Dawn

  • Easy together Midday Midday also wants to make things clear. What Dawn has quietly checked on its own, Midday lights up widely among people. Like the light growing stronger from morning to noon, you connect without any strain.
  • Easy together Midnight Midnight also spends its time in the quiet. Dawn checks for answers, and Midnight imagines without any. You face different directions, but you both value quiet time, so being near each other feels calm.
  • May clash Dusk Dusk wants to enjoy unclear things as they are, inside a circle of people. Dawn wants to check for answers quietly, on its own. You're opposite in both light and bustle, so to Dawn, Dusk's lively chatter seems to leave things hanging in the air, and to Dusk, Dawn seems to have gone off and found the answer alone ahead of everyone.

Dusk

  • Easy together Midday Midday also lives in the bustle. While Dusk enjoys the open space, Midday makes only the things that need deciding clear. Within the circle, what stays blurred and what gets lit up are neatly divided.
  • Easy together Midnight Midnight also enjoys not knowing as it is. Midnight takes the “What do you think?” that Dusk tossed around with people and expands it with its own imagination. From evening into night, the open space grows deeper.
  • May clash Dawn Dawn wants to quietly check the shape of things on its own. Dusk wants to have a lively time in a circle of people without settling on an answer. When Dusk is happily wondering with friends what kind of shop that is, and Dawn has already looked it up on its own, the difference in how you enjoy things comes right out into the open.

Midnight

  • Easy together Dusk Dusk can also go without hurrying to an answer. Even when Midnight is holding something it “can't quite put into words yet,” Dusk doesn't force it into words, and enjoys the conversation just as it is.
  • Easy together Dawn Dawn also spends its time in the quiet. Dawn checks, little by little, the ideas Midnight has let grow, and gives them shape. From night into morning, things move forward and the quiet stays.
  • May clash Midday Midnight wants to leave ideas that haven't taken shape yet in the dark for a while. Midday wants to bring an idea out in front of people the moment it comes up and check it. You handle ideas in exactly opposite ways, so each other's pace can look too fast or too slow.

It is more fun once you know which one you are. 12 questions, about 2 minutes.
